Bearded Iris (Iris x germanica) x 3
Bearded iris (Iris x germanica) are classic, rhizome-forming perennials known for large, ruffled blooms and sword-like foliage.
Available here as 3 rhizomes ready to lant for flowers next year. (Rhizome sizes may vary). Direct from my own garden, these rhizomes are ready to produce a bold show in your garden next Spring/early summer.
Flowers have six parts—three upright “standards” and three drooping “falls”—often with a fuzzy “beard” on the falls. Blue, purple, yellow and white. Fragrant and make excellent cut flowers. Leaves grow in fan-shaped clumps, with a height of approx. 2-3 feet.
They spread via rhizomes (thick, horizontal stems) producing additional flowers year on year.
Hardy, drought tolerant once established, enjoying full sun (at least 6 hours).
Require well-drained soil; avoid persistent moisture. Plant rhizomes in late summer making sure that the top of the rhizome sits at soil level or just barely covered, oriented toward the sun. Do not mulch over rhizomes—excess moisture can cause rot.
